These days we see photos of flooded, waterlogged Mumbai. Water is gushing so hard that in maximum city there’s minimum dry land. There is water water everywhere, but very little to drink. There’s a Bengali phrase, ‘doobe doobe jol khaye’, roughly translated as ‘sinking, sinking, water drinking’, but sadly there’s not much drinking water available even if water levels are rising. Tragically, lives and livelihoods are being lost in the monsoon’s heartless reign. Former PM Manmohan Singh once said Mumbai would be another Shanghai but the only thing Mumbai has in common with China at the moment is noodle soup at eateries. Citizens are in a soup due to the watery diet they’re having to endure.
