It’s been a good week for Bengalis. Not only has dada Sourav Ganguly become the big boss of cricket as BCCI chief but another Kolkatar chele (Calcutta boy) Abhijit Banerjee won the Nobel Prize. The surge in Bengali pride was momentarily interrupted when Banerjee revealed that in fact he’s only half-Bengali, his mother being Maharashtrian. However once your surname is Banerjee there’s no getting away from sonar bangla.
The Bengal economy may not be in the best shape, but when it comes to the Nobel Prize, Bengalis have cornered the market. Soon when Nobel Laureates are announced, many might cry out, by golly, it’s another Bengali.
