If assembly elections 2022 are a mid-term referendum on Narendra Modi’s leadership, the Prime Minister is the clear winner. With a triumph in the key state of Uttar Pradesh, and beating back anti-incumbency in three smaller states, BJP seems to be in pole position to dominate the general elections of 2024. The Modi honeymoon continues without a seven-year itch, forcing the Opposition to look at the general elections of 2029 as perhaps the next opportunity to seriously challenge the Modi-helmed BJP.
