We are streets ahead in roadside symbolism
The streets of Delhi may be chowk-a-block with politics but surely the despotism of 17th century Aurangzeb can’t be erased by wiping his name off a street in 21st century Delhi. Why are we fighting a 300 year war? How far back down the historical highway will we go to vanquish the past? Shall we rename Krishna Menon Marg, because the then defence minister was held by many to be responsible for the defeat of 1962? History remains history, however hard we try and make it a tool for every day politics. Re-naming roads is only sadak chaap politics.
